Krone Abraham Lincoln Limited Edition Fountain Pen

The Krone Limited Edition Abraham Lincoln Pen not only captures the "genetic essence" of America's greatest President but also embodies the wonders of 20th-century science with the artistry of time-honored craftsmanship.

It is only in the latter part of this century that scientists have unraveled the mysteries of DNA, the very building blocks of life. And only recently have scientists been able to replicate an individual's DNA from such remnants as a single strand of human hair.

In order to create this definitive historical collectible, Krone obtained the most highly authenticated strands of Abraham Lincoln's hair in existence. And, using the latest technology, Krone took those strands and reproduced the DNA of America's greatest President. This DNA, in crystallized form, is embedded in the amethyst stone of every Limited Edition Abraham Lincoln Pen.

In addition to such technological achievements, the Krone Limited Edition Abraham Lincoln Pen is made by the finest craftsmen, who use the finest materials to create a writing instrument of unsurpassed quality and durability. Each Abraham Lincoln Pen contains:

A two-toned, iridium-tipped 18kt.-gold nib, with the Krone name guilloched on the nib. The nibs are offered in three customized widths (fine, medium, and broad) in deference to the owner’s writing preference.

An ergonomically designed ebonite barrel hand-tooled to conform to every curve in the hand, providing the ultimate in comfort, balance, and fluidity.

R_lincolnAt the top of the cap, a .925-silver bezel, holding a cabochon amethyst contains the 16th President’s DNA in the form of porous glass powder obtained by the patented PCR process. Lincoln’s distinctive signature is engraved on a .925-silver band at the bottom of the cap.

A .925-silver clip containing a small oval where the Abraham Lincoln portrait is engraved in 18kt.-gold.

The Abraham Lincoln Pen is a limited edition of 1,008 pens in sterling silver worldwide. Each pen’s sequential number is engraved on the barrel, ensuring that this distinctive writing instrument will be the definitive historical collectible of all time. Piston Fill. Medium nib.

The Whole Story

On the night of Abraham Lincoln’s assassination, a clump of hair was removed from Abraham Lincoln’s head. Charles S. Taft. Dr. Taft presented them to Mrs. Lincoln who returned them as gratitude for Dr. Taft’s attempts to save her husband’s life. Taft later gave them to his son, Charles C. Taft. Taft’s son then put the hair, 6 strands, into a ring. Which was later presented to President Theodore Roosevelt.

In 1908 Taft approached General James Grant Wilson regarding the possible sale of other Lincoln relics, which included the remaining locks of Lincoln’s hair. Unable to obtain the relic’s, Wilson approached William Lambert, a wealthy insurance executive, who immediately purchased the locks and other relics. The transaction is well documented and dated March 12, 1908. Lambert enclosed the hair in a simple gold box inscribed: “The enclosed lock of hair given to Dr. Charles S. Taft, one of the attending surgeons, April 15, 1865.”

After Lambert’s death, the box went up for auction through the Metropolitan Art Association. Henry C. Hines of New Jersey purchased the lock of Lincoln’s hair and the gold box. Which remained sealed until 1993. When the box and locks were retrieved by John Reznikoff, President, University Archive Stamford, Connecticut, one of the world’s foremost collectors of hair from historical figures.

StarGene used a portion of these highly authenticated strands to replicate Lincoln’s DNA that is embedded in the amethyst stone of every Krone Limited Edition Abraham Lincoln Pen.

The DNA is in the form of a porous glass powder made possible by PCR.

PCR- Polymerase Chain Reaction.

Simply, this revolutionary process can multiply a single, microscopic strand of DNA into millions in just a few hours, providing scientists with the large amounts of DNA they need to conduct genetic research. Dr. Mullis’s discovery, which earned him the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1993, has opened up DNA research to a degree unimaginable just a few years ago. In this remarkable process of PCR that allows you to share in the “genetic essence” of Abraham Lincoln.
