COMES WITH BOX AND PAPERS. To all seekers of true beauty Geneva, June 2007 - Caran d'Ache, Maison de Haute Ecriture, brings out the new "Buddha" Limited Edition, created in collaboration with the Swiss Jeweller Edouard Jud, to honour the life of Lord Buddha, a major figure in the Indian spiritual life. The influence of the Indian Lord Buddha has long spread far beyond its land of origin. In every country, in every culture, Buddha embodies wisdom and symbolises the serenity that each one of us wishes to reach. Buddha's original name was Siddhartha, meaning "one who has accomplished his aim". Siddhartha was known all over the world as Buddha, the Enlightened. In the sixth century before the Christian era, religion was forgotten in India and reduced to trade object. Buddha was born to save the people and disseminate the message of equality, unity and cosmic love everywhere. The Buddha has achieved the highest state of consciousness and experienced Nirvana. He is fully awakened, his spirit is pure as he understands the non- dualistic nature of life and has found the path towards internal peace. The most precious thing one can ever own! These extraordinary properties, described in the holy scriptures of the Indians, the Vedas, explain why maharajas were so passionate about them. Each piece, manufactured in the Geneva workshops of the brand, is made in 800 sterling silver and engraved with gilded Buddha's faces. The cap is topped with a cabochon 1.5 carats emerald of 8.5mm diameter. Each stone has been carefully selected and imported from India. The Fountain pen nib is bicolour, made in gold 18 carat and rhodium. Finely engraved on the pen, the number of the piece, the initials CdA, the master's hallmark and the alloy fineness. The Buddha comes in two types of writing instrument: 10 Fountain pens and 10 Roller pens. Each instrument is individually numbered and comes in its own black lacquered teak jewellery box. This Limited Edition belongs to the Artist Collection of Caran d'Ache. Loyal to this tradition of originality and rarity, the Artist Collection offers exceptional, individually numbered pieces, produced in a very limited edition, in partnership with artists and craftsmen from different backgrounds: jewellers, sculptors... These pieces are all made with precious materials that illustrate the considerable expertise of a House specialising in Fine Writing. Available in September in Specialised stores for writing instruments. Biography of Edouard Jud This is not the first time that Caran d'Ache calls upon the artistic talents of Edouard Jud. In 2000, he already designed the solid-silver sheaths for the Limited Edition La Poya Fountain pens. Born on October 26, 1933 in Gossau, Edouard Jud is the 14th member of a family of reputed jewellers and goldsmiths, natives of Switzerland's canton of St-Gallen. After his early beginnings as a 14-year-old apprentice with his father, he continued to perfect his training with the most renowned Swiss Jewellers and graduated from the Higher Institute for Jewellery, Drawing and Engraving in Pforzheim, Germany. During his many years of training, he became a master in complicated techniques such as chiselling, setting, engraving and lacquering, techniques embraced today by different professions. He specialized in the making of Writing Instruments and his path naturally came to cross the path of Caran d'Ache. |
