Though monotheism, pragmatism and realism have dominated Western behaviour and thought since the Renaissance, the mortal heroes and mythical gods of ancient times continue to fascinate modern man. To acknowledge their unabated influence on art, dialogue and accepted wisdom, Italian pencrafters TIBALDI devised the Immortal Heroes Collection, launched with a series honouring Spartacus and the gladiator schools of the Roman Empire.

Following the Spartacus pen is a writing implement in homage to the most familiar and most admired deity of them all: Hercules. A god to both the ancient Greeks and Romans, Hercules' undiminished allure for mankind is based on heroism, limitless strength, and, ultimately, the completion of 12 seemingly impossible tasks known to all as "The Labours of Hercules". They have entered Western discourse as euphemisms for achieving the unattainable.

Not deterred by their immensity, Hercules completed his labours, and embarked on other adventures which established him as a hero and warrior for the ages, forever representing virility, strength and courage. His role as the strongest man on earth has inspired sculptors, painters and writers to the present day, Hercules finding representation in every medium man has created. During the last 50 years alone, he has inspired an entire genre of movies in Italy, a successful television series and even an animated feature from Walt Disney.

To honour the greatest of mythical heroes, TIBALDI announces the HERCULES pen. Every detail illustrates an aspect of the Hercules saga, starting with a pen clip reproducing the design of Hercules' club. The clip ring is engraved with an image in relief of the Temple of Hercules Victor in Rome, while the hand-painted cap reproduces a painting by Antonio del Pollaiuolo entitled "Hercules and the Hydra". Complementing it is a barrel in green resin, while a button on the top of the pen is engraved with an image in relief of Hercules, coated with translucent green enamel. As with all TIBALDI pens, every HERCULES writing instrument has been designed according to the Divine Proportion.

In accordance with his Twelve Labours, Tibaldi will produce the HERCULES PEN in a series limited to 120 roller balls and 120 fountain pens in silver and 12 of each in solid gold.
